Jefferson Laboratory Awards Anderson Dahlen with a Contract to Build SNS PPU High Beta Vacuum Vessels

Posted on: February 21, 2020

In November of 2019, Jefferson Laboratory (JLAB) awarded Anderson Dahlen (ADI) with a contract to build (7) Proton Power Upgrade (PPU) High Beta Vacuum Vessels. The complete High Beta Cryomodule Vacuum Vessel Assembly will provide insulating vacuum, structural support, and overpressure protection for the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) High Beta Cryomodule at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

The award is the result of a competitive bid process and requires design collaboration between ADI and JLAB engineers to ensure the vessels meet all performance requirements. Each vessel weighs approximately 4,000 lbs, 20’ in length, and 40” in diameter. Furthermore, the vessels will be certified for vacuum service and ASME BPVC VIII-1 U-Stamped. ADI is excited to begin scheduled deliveries to JLAB in July of 2020 for processing and delivery of the completed assembly to ORNL.
