Supporting AP-Tech’s Need for Increased Capacity and Efficiency

Our Design Engineers and Project Managers regularly utilize SolidWorks and Inventor software to model chambers and systems during the quoting phase to generate detailed and accurate proposals. Once a contract is established, we are able to modify and customize designs more efficiently in order achieve an on-time delivery and high quality product. Applied Physics Technologies, Inc. (www.a-p-tech.com) is a premier producer and fabricator of electron emitting materials and electron sources based in McMinnville, OR. AP-Tech distinguishes itself from the competition by focusing on the design and creation of custom cathodes. AP-Tech assists their customers by breaking down their product into four main areas: source material, cathodes, cathode assemblies, and focusing assemblies in order to provide a gold standard, custom solution for the application. AP-Tech contacted Anderson Dahlens Applied Vacuum Division to provide a second test chamber to increase production capacity and to help address sealing issues with the current test chamber. The existing chamber is opened multiple times per day and required to achieve base pressures of mid 10-8 torr while baking at 125C. AP-Techs inability to reach the desired base pressure limited cathode production. We provided a cost-effective design with a more robust hinge assembly and redesigned door to solve their issues. This new chamber will be used to manufacture and test thermionic cathodes that are used for several hi-tech applications. Reliable performance from this new chamber is essential to keep up with increasing demand.
