Making Safety Pay at Anderson Dahlen

Posted on: June 25, 2021

We are pleased to announce that our Applied Vacuum Team in Waconia, MN recently received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Minnesota Safety Council. The award honors continuing improvement and/or an outstanding record for three consecutive years for Days Away Restricted Transfer (DART) rate and an Incidence Rate 51-90% better than the average industry classification. It also honors total points of between 75 and 90 on the Safety Program Evaluation Scorecard. As background, the Minnesota Safety Council was founded in 1928 and is a non-governmental non-profit organization focused on improving injuries in the workplace.

While we do not want to understate the importance and meaning of the Minnesota Safety Council award, it simply honors our everyday principles and dedication to continuous improvement. At Anderson Dahlen, we make employee health, wellbeing and safety our utmost priority. We believe the Anderson Dahlen philosophy that every accident is preventable, and we practice that every day in each detail of our work. And it shows.

Bringing Extra Diligence to Our Work

The Applied Vacuum Team brings extra diligence to our work, which involves manufacturing high vacuum products, including large vacuum chambers and intricate supporting equipment for a variety of industries and advanced research projects. This work includes machining, welding, and finishing stainless steel built for the most extreme conditions. Our customers depend on us for extraordinary quality, so our safety processes must match our high craftsmanship.

Our high standard of safety is a result of our commitment to our valued employees who depend on us to protect their safety daily and ensure they aren’t injured on the job or lose precious work time. We are constantly developing new safety training programs in a variety of topics. It is all part of our ongoing efforts to build trust, communication and protection in the work environment. The Minnesota Safety Council award is certainly a recognition of these efforts and one worth celebrating. But the safety of our customers and employees is an ongoing effort and we need to ensure we are regularly raising the bar and walking the talk.

Safety Ingrained in Our Culture and Craftsmanship

Safety is very much ingrained in our company’s culture, at all team levels and throughout the entire organization. We are driven by continuous improvement and cross-functional teamwork and safety is certainly no exception. We have a series of safety programs that provide additional avenues for all employees to highlight safety topics on a regular basis. It has been our experience that by fostering an environment that advocates clear and open communication, our employees feel empowered to speak up when they see something so we can all work safely.

We also believe a strong safety culture aligns with our long-standing reputation for craftsmanship. Our employees would rather take the extra time to do the job right than get it done quickly. It is this attention to detail and commitment to quality that help ensure we all remain safe while doing great work.
