ADI Vacuum Chambers And The Race for Fusion Energy

The race to secure new, carbon-free, energy sources has evolved to include fusion energy. It is predicted the emerging industry of commercial nuclear fusion reactors will be ready within the next decade. However, creating a power source with the strength of a star is no simple feat and will require top-tier reliable equipment.

One of the most crucial components for energy experimentation are vacuum chambers that can safely contain a high discharge of energy. Right now, Commonwealth Fusion Systems has secured a $1,800,000,000 grant to research fusion energy with backing from investors like Bill Gates and John Doerr.

Their studies involve extremely powerful magnets encased in stainless-steel vacuum chambers. ADI became involved in the project when contacts at a leading technology institute who know our vacuum chamber manufacturing capabilities reached out for a vacuum chamber that would be up to the rigorous engineering standards of their research technicians.

One key contribution weâ’‚¬’„¢ve made in the field of physics was an A+ upgrade to The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) at CalTech â’‚¬’€œ a large-scale physics experiment designed and built to detect cosmic gravitational waves. For LIGO, Anderson Dahlenâ’‚¬’„¢s Applied Vacuum Division (AVD) built a new high-vacuum filter cavity (FC) vacuum beamline in support of an A+ upgrade that expanded LIGOâ’‚¬’„¢s sensitivity to gravitational waves and increased their volume of searchable space by seven times!
